Salzburgers
During Georgia's Trustee period, thee Salzburgers moved to Georgia. The Salzburgers were a group of Protestants who lived in Catholic Germany. They were persecuted because of their religion so James Oglethorpe invited them to move to Georgia. They lived in a town called New Ebenezer. Today, many of their descendants live in Chatham and Effingham County.
Highland Scots and Spanish Threat
Another group of people arrived in Georgia during the Trustee period. These people were the Highland Scots. They were invited to live in Georgia from Scottland. They were known to be great warriors. Oglethorpe invited them because they could protect the colony from the Spanish that were south of Georgia. The Spanish wanted the land claimed for Georgia so that is why they were a threat. The Highland Scots came to protect Georgia from spanish threat.
Malcontents
After living in Georgia during the Trustee period, a group of people were getting unhappy with the Trustee rules. These people were the Malcontents. They were against the Trustee rules and wanted them to be changed. As a result, the Trustees gave the colony back to the king. After this, Georgia was a royal colony.
