Mississippian Period
After the Woodland Period was the Mississippian Period. The Mississippian Period lasted from 900 A.D. to 1600 A.D. The Mississippians lived in chiefdoms which are villages that were lad by a chief. They were usually by a river and had a moat around them. Their main source of food was the crops that they grew. They did not eat a lot of meat because they did not hunt a lot. Toward the end of the Mississippian Period, the Europeans started to explore America. After Hernando de Soto started to explore the land, the Mississippian period ended.
