University of Georgia
After the United States became independent, Georgia had no major colleges. This led to problems in Georgia's education. As a result, John Milledge donated money to start a major college in Georgia. This helped the education in Georgia to improve. The college became known as a land grant college because the federal government provided the money needed to start a college. Today this college is known as the University of Georgia.
